IRON MOUNTAIN, MI (November 7, 2024) – First National Bank & Trust is excited to announce the 7th Annual Bring-a-Bear Teddy Bear Toss, an initiative aimed at collecting new stuffed animals for local emergency responders, charities, and crisis centers. This year’s Teddy Bear Toss will take place on Thursday, November 21, at Mountain View Ice Arena, where the Kingsford Flivvers will face off against the Negaunee Miners. The game starts at 5:30 pm, with admission only $1 for attendees bringing a new stuffed animal donation to toss on the ice when the Flivvers score their first goal.
“Listening to our local emergency responders share their heartfelt stories about the positive impact a stuffed animal can have on a child during a crisis underscores the importance of Project Teddy Bear,” said Matthew Lutz, Chief Financial Officer of First National. “A couple of years ago, when my son was in the Emergency Room, his face lit up when he received a stuffed animal. It’s experiences like these that drive our passion for this event, and we’re hopeful to surpass our previous records for stuffed toy collections this year.”
The Flivver Hockey program is also excited to once again host the event. “KHS hockey is proud to be a part of the Teddy Bear Toss event; it’s a fun time and helps so many kids during a crisis in our community,” said Greg Wadge, head coach of the Kingsford High School Varsity Hockey Team. “Additionally, having all those teddy bears tossed on the ice during a game adds extra excitement and we are grateful for our fans and happy to help out the community.”
In addition to the Teddy Bear Toss, the evening will feature Air-the-Bear, replacing the traditional Chuck-a-Puck game. Participants can purchase a chance to throw a numbered bear onto the ice, with prizes awarded to the three closest to center ice, courtesy of co-sponsor Radio Now 100.7 FM. All proceeds from Air-the-Bear will directly support the Flivver Hockey program.
Since its launch in 2017, Project Teddy Bear has donated nearly 2,500 new stuffed toys to local organizations. This initiative reflects First National’s ongoing commitment to strengthening our community. The toy drive will continue throughout December, with donations being accepted at the First National downtown office located at 233 S. Stephenson Ave.
