On Monday, February 24, 2025, the Iron Mountain Police Department was notified of social media posts made by an individual residing in the 500 block of 7th Street, Iron Mountain. The posts consisted of several short videos showing the subject in possession of what looked like a large quantity of ammunition. The footage showed what looked like a backpack containing mixed ammunition, including .22 caliber, 9mm, 12–gauge shotgun shells, and magazines loaded with .308 and .223 caliber rifle ammunition. The subject, who showed his face in the videos, was identified as a person the Iron Mountain Police Department had previously encountered.
The subject, identified as Cory Conn, a 41–year–old male from Iron Mountain, is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition under Michigan Compiled Law 750.224f. He is also on bond for charges related to carrying a concealed weapon, which occurred in August, 2024.
After obtaining a search warrant, the Critical Incident Response Team C.I.R.T. was activated. This was done to safely execute the warrant to minimize risk to both the public and law enforcement. C.I.R.T. is a specialized group, trained to handle high–risk situations, consisting of officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety, Norway Police Department, and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department.
C.I.R.T. successfully apprehended the Conn outside of his residence. The search of the residence resulted in locating the ammunition that was observed in the video footage.
Cory Conn was arraigned in the Dickinson County 95B District court for possession of weapons and/or ammunition by a prohibited person. This is a felony with a penalty of up to 5 years and/or a $5,000.00 fine.
The Iron Mountain Police Department was assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Kingsford Public Safety, and the Norway Police Department.
The Iron Mountain Fire Department was notified and was on standby for emergency aid services.
Unrelated to this incident, Conn was also arraigned for charges relating to pointing a laser light at air planes as they were landing and the Ford Airport in Kingsford, Michigan, on or around January 16th, 2025. This is a felony with a penalty of up to 5 years and/or a $10,000.00 fine.
